Dear Black women – Are you showing up for yourself in 2025?

I was thinking about what went well for me last year. With my January – Spring 2025 to-do list growing, I had to really think about the good things from 2024 that I want to continue for 2025. I asked myself, ‘how did you show up for yourself in 2024?’ As I started thinking, I remembered how much I’ve stuck to going to yoga classes. I’ve always been more of a cardio person but I started the yoga classes when I realised that I don’t do enough stretching. Also after the first class, I realised it was true about how yoga helps with stress. I was so relaxed I struggled to work in the afternoon!
Tree pose with a wobble
I also laughed when I remembered how often I wobble in the classes when trying to do Tree pose (stand and balance on one leg)! It’s a great reminder that while I’m not an expert and I’m still working on my flexibility.

I think the biggest lesson for me, is that I have continued to show-up to classes, no matter what’s happening. Sometimes I really don’t want to go. A busy work day or overthinking the errands I have to do, often makes it very tempting to miss the class. I’ve continued to go to class, whether I wobble or not 🙂
Showing up for myself in this way, is my reminder at other times that I can make good choices for my life and health, for my short and long-term future.
