How your packaging can make or break your business

You might think that your company’s packaging is just the wrapping that you use to send the important stuff – your products – safely on their way to the customer, but it is so much more than that, or at least it should be!

Here’s why your packaging can truly make or break our business:

1. First impressions count

We all know that first impressions count for a whole lot. That’s why we dress up for big interviews and first dates, right? Well, the same is true in business and creating a great first impression of your products, via the packaging, is really important if you want to sell more and delight those customers of yours.

2. Tell your brand story

Your packaging is a storytelling tool. It’s not just about keeping your product safe and snug; it’s your chance to tell customers who you are and what you stand for. Are you all about luxury? Eco-friendly? Fun and quirky? Are you a proud black-women owners business? The materials, colours, and design of your package can convey all of this at a glance whether it’s using personalised ribbon to show your heritage or recycled cardboard to show off your sustainability. When customers feel connected to your brand story, they’re more likely to pick you over a competitor.

3. Functionality is key

Ever tried to open one of those plastic clamshell packages without turning into a rage monster? Yeah, not fun. Packaging needs to be functional and user-friendly. Consumers shouldn’t need a YouTube tutorial to figure out how to open your product. Easy-to-open, intuitive packaging not only enhances the customer experience but also saves your customer service team from fielding calls from frustrated buyers.

4. Sustainability: Good for the Planet, Great for Business

Eco-friendly packaging is good karma, for sure, but it’s also a great way to attract more customers because what’s good for the planet is very much popular right now, and that means it’s very much good for business too. So, use recycled materials for packaging and sing about it, if you want your business to soar.

5. The unboxing experience

Thanks to social media, the “unboxing” experience is now a thing—a big thing. A package that offers a delightful unboxing experience can turn a mundane act into a memorable event, one that customers are eager to share with friends and followers. Consider how your product is revealed: Is it exciting? Does it feel like a gift? Even simple touches like a thank you note inside the box or a well-designed, branded tissue paper can elevate the unboxing experience and make it share-worthy.

6. Security matters

Last but not least, your packaging needs to protect what’s inside. It doesn’t matter how gorgeous your packaging is if the product arrives looking like it’s been through a tumbler. Invest in quality materials and design a package that safeguards your product through shipping and handling. A customer’s heartbreak over a damaged product can quickly turn into brand resentment.

Packaging: it’s more important than you think!
