Why January is not the time to start a diet
The new year -a time to refresh and start over with new habits, goals and aims. Alot of us decide that January is the time to start a new diet and revamp our eating habits. In some cases, we’re trying to lose weight.
Why January is not the time to deprive yourself
But I have to tell you, I don’t think January is a good time to do this. I believe in selfcare and Afrowoman Online is a voice for Black women’s wellness. But January is a tough month. The long grey days and cold temperatures. Let’s not forget the bills coming in and waiting for payday to arrive! So this doesn’t seem like the best time to me to cut back on everything!
Willpower – yes!
If you want to and have the willpower, then yes go ahead and stop eating chocolate or drinking wine. But this feels to me like a time for pampering and cocooning yourself as much as possible. So I say that we should be enjoying our treats – don’t feel bad about still wearing your lounge wear too. Comfort is of prime importance here!
Start in Spring
Spring will be here before we know it. The lighter days and temperatures going up will make it easier to start switching to lighter food. Even that walk around the park or gym session will be more appealing. Just don’t think that if you don’t have a resolution for a perfect January that you haven’t succeeded. I can’t help but think that being kind to yourself for the first month is so necessary. It’s from a place of peace and self-love that you can make decisions and set new goals, without living in a state of deprivation.
So enjoy the cake, chocolate or any left over mince pies and know that being kind to yourself now is the best thing for your year to come 🙂 How are you starting your new year? Leave a comment below:
